US leaders have similarly depicted their campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan as wars of Good against Evil. But it may be worth asking why, 2,500 years later, we remain so obsessed by the Greeks.

It is unsurprising that the Greeks particularly Herodotus, who, to be fair, was less of a caricature than his literary heirs should have presented their victory as a triumph over barbarism. As long as wars have been fought, the protagonists have draped themselves in idealistic principles

According to Cartledge, there is no Persian source no native Herodotus for the Greco-Persian wars. But we now know enough about the Persian empire to modify traditional views. Touraj Daryaee, professor of ancient history at California State University, Fullerton, points out that slavery, widely practised in Greece, was rare among the Persians, whose women enjoyed higher status that their Greek counterparts.

Maybe the greatest person in greek history, the philosopher Aristoteles said Womens are "bad copies of men". He further said womens are half men and that they should only be the slave of their husbands. You see, no culture is perfect. Not even yours.

Anyway. Herodotos was not only a ethnocentic historian. He also gave credit to persians. In his book he first wrote about how filfhty the pontus region was (nowday turkey). He further said about persians: "Persian youth learn basically three important things in their lifetime: To tell the Truth, how to use a bow and how to ride a horse".

Nobody knows about history, only and only Mr Atlanta police and other member of sendika know about it. You are too selfish.

History net is a recognized and well respected worldwide publication. Eat it

Historynet is a bullshit magazine baby, and always is talking about west and Greek. It is totally crap.

I own you barbarians man, you have absolutely no historical knowledge relying only on your propaganda and LIES that your idiotic government feeds you.

We should watch history with objective eyes. Only then we can understand the world and the history as it really is. Herodotos was born in Persia, he wrote many un-logical things. I can recommend everyone to read Herodotos book"In Book 3, passages 102 to 105" (very un-logical stories).

Because of Islam, If Iran be as a christian country in one day, then all western countries will refer to all sources by Iran or Persia.

Unfortunately people from west automatically, without being objective, support the greeks rather than the persians. This is a deeply rooted culture that started from herodotos and continued to roman empire, than rousseau (who was a racist against non-europeans) and today we can watch this movie while Athenianpolis is calling persians for barbaric and savage without knowing the history of persia or the meaning of the words he uses.
AthenaionPolis
A man must be a barbar otherwise is not a man, He will be a cute boy.
AthenaionPolis
Acctually the word "barbaric" is a missunderstood word. Originally the greeks used the word "barbaric" on people who did not speak greek. Later on, the romans missunderstood the word, or at least changed the words meaning when they called north european people (gauls, dacians, scandinavians, dans and so on) for barbarians.

The problem is here, in that time the Greek people knew and able to count numbers from one to 300 and after that jump to million, so that is why that nobody knows those numbers which had been referred by Herodotus where it came from?!!
AthenaionPolis
Well my greek friend. I don't now how old you are? Either your a teenager or very un-educated. Because right now your just acting childish. Look at what your writing.
