Patient Information

Introduction

Sydney Institute of Plastic Surgery Dr Olbourne has training and experience in the entire range of plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures. His areas of specific interest include the face and nose, breast surgery (enlargement, reduction, repositioning) and abdominal procedures. He has adapted techniques that minimise scars by using endoscopic (keyhole) approach where possible. In breast augmentation surgery, there are no scars at all on the breast and his breast reductions are performed with minimal scars .

Dr Olbourne has produced a detailed patient information brochure which you can download to read on each.

Patients should be aware that surgeons vary in their training, skill and expertise. It is therefore unwise to select the surgeon for your proposed operation based on the impressive nature of his website, the fee quoted for your surgery or the "best ever" results demonstrated.

Training is the foundation of your surgeon's knowledge base and skill. Only those surgeons who have the letters FRACS (Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons) after their name have been trained in all aspects of Plastic Surgery to a standard recognized universally throughout the surgical world. Only surgeons who are FRACS are entitled to become members of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

The best advice you can receive is to carefully choose a few surgeons and consult with them about your proposed operation. Ensure they can respond appropriately to your enquiries about the procedure, its risks and benefits and its relevance to your particular problem.

At the Sydney Institute of Plastic Surgery, Dr Olbourne and his team take pride in the quality of the information they provide, their availability to their patients and the outcomes which they achieve.

Occasionally, emergencies or other unplanned events disrupt our schedule. If that occurs on the day of your appointment, we will endeavour to contact you and to minimize any disruption to your schedule. We appreciate that everyone has time constraints and do our best to ensure that you are seen at the time appointed.

Allow as much as 45 minutes for your first consultation with Dr Olbourne. He will assess your problem and advise you of his opinion as to the appropriate surgical solution. Dr Olbourne specializes in the provision of detailed information and will carefully go through the techniques of surgery and explain all the benefits and risks of the procedure you seek.

He will use photographs of other patients who have undergone similar surgeries to demonstrate to you the finer points of the operation proposed and a range of outcomes that can be achieved. Only with all the information available will you be able to make an appropriate judgement on which procedure will best achieve your goals in cosmetic surgery.

At the end of your consultation, the office staff will assist you with the selection of the date for your operation and advise you of the cost of the surgery and other services which will be required to achieve the optimal result.
